Band Parents

Band Parents may be in the background, but no band can be successful without those parents who are willing to give of their time and talent.

The life of a band parent includes:

  • Pit crew

  • Event chaperones

  • Prop builders

  • Booster board members

  • Helping with fundraisers

  • Driving equipment truck(s) to venue(s)

  • Load and unload equipment truck(s)

  • Ensure that water and snacks make it to the venue

  • Ensure that first aid kit is at the venue and accessible

Pit Crew

Helps parents take equipment and instruments to the field for both the color guard and marching band.

Chaperone

Rides the bus to the venue and helps monitor student conduct. Also helps with any student needs

Prop Builders

Help with building props for either the color guard or marching band.

Booster Board

Serves by planning and organizing band related activities. The Board has several office positions that are listed here.

Fundraising

The band has a variety of fundraisers, including chocolate sales and a mattress sale. We also welcome parent support when it comes to fundraising.

Truck Drivers

The band has to utilize truck(s) to take equipment to each venue. This includes instruments, props, and uniforms, among other items. The students need a parent who can drive a truck (currently not CDL required).

Truck Loading

Sometimes early in the morning, sometimes on Friday night, the truck needs to be loaded prior to an engagement. The more parents who help, the faster the loading goes.

So, what am I getting myself into?

It's important to be honest about the commitment not only the students make, but band parents make as well.

As you can see, there are quite a few jobs that need to be filled to make the band program a success.

To that end, and depending on what support you are able to give, events can be long affairs that start early in the day and end late at night.

However, it is rewarding and fun to see the students perform and put their all into their presentations. The best part is you get to know the the band kids, and see them blossom as performers, artists, and people.

To provide you a better understanding of the time commitment we have uploaded some Sample Itineraries below:
